Unlike Russian, Belarusian doesn’t use the internationals names of the months of Latin origin, but has its own Slavic names that characterise each month.
January – студзень (studzen’) – сцюдзёны, the cold one
February – люты (ljuty) – люты, the fierce one
March – сакавік (sakavik) – той, у якім
пачынаецца рух сокаў у дрэвах, the one when tree sap starts circulating in trees
April – красавік (krasavik) – красівы, прыгожы, the beautiful one
May – май (mai)
June – чэрвень (cherven’) – той, у якім чырванеюць ягады, the one when berries become red
July –
ліпень (lipen’) – той, у
якім
квітнеюць ліпы, the one when linden blossoms
August – жнівень (zhniven’) – той, у
якім
жнуць, the month of reaping
September – верасень (verasen’) – той, у
якім
квітнее верас, the one when
heather blossoms
October – кастрычнік (kastrychnik) – from the word “кастра”, hemp hurds, an agricultural product made from hemp during this month
November – лістапад (listapad) – той, у
якім
апошнія лісты ападаюць з дрэў, the one when the last leaves fall off the trees
December – снежань (sniezhan’) – снежны, the snowy one
